The post-AFA blues just wouldn’t go away, but with Christmas just around the corner, so let the festive cheer brighten your day! In Japan, Christmas is a season spent with lovers and friends, but who says you can’t spend it with your favourite characters?
Otomart, a free mobile application aimed at anime, manga and game fans, has conducted a christmas-themed poll for their users this holiday season. They polled male and female fans on “Who would you like to spend christmas with?” (2D and 3D editions!), “Where would you spend Christmas?”, and “What is the most anticipated winter 2014 anime?”, among others. While male voters placed only characters in the top 10, the female voters’ ranking saw both seiyuus and characters in the poll results. Notably, seiyuu and OLDCODEX’s vocalist Tatsuhisa Suzuki made it to 2nd place in this poll, right after Yowamushi Pedal’s Arakita at top place. The overwhelming popularity of Love Live! was clear among the male voters, with characters from the series dominating the top 10.
As for the 2D (characters only) and 3D (seiyuu, artistes only) versions of the poll, the popularity of the characters and the voices behind them was made obvious by fans’ votes. Seiyuus of popular characters from the 2D poll, Sho Kurusu (2nd) and Makoto Tachibana (3rd), namely Hiro Shimono and Tatsuhisa Suzuki, both made it into 3rd and 1st place of the 3D poll respectively.

The winner was a “stay-at-home date”, followed by normal dinner dates or viewing christmas lights/illumination. Interestingly, there were also many who wanted to celebrate Captain Rivalle’s (Attack on Titan) birthday, which falls on Christmas! Others wanted to spend Christmas eating karaage and cake with Hiro Shimono, or donuts with Aoi Miyamori (SHIROBAKO).
