The final results of the annual Newtype Anime Awards are out! Released on 11th Oct, the poll sums up the popular fan opinion in typical favourites such as favourite character, anime series and seiyuu, as well as more behind-the-scenes awards for favourite character and mecha design, and soundtrack.
Earlier last month, the mid-term poll standings were released on the official Newtype website, and summarised in our earlier article. While there has been some shuffling in placings, fans’ displayed their passion in keeping their favourites in the top spots.
Despite having ended its run two seasons ago, Kill la Kill remains at the top of the radar, clinching top spots in character design, storyboard, soundtrack and overall favourite series (TV broadcast). The Idolmaster Movie took the other top spot for overall favourite series (movie), theme song, and female character. Other popular series that appeared in almost all categories include typical favourites Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio (also top in mecha design), TIGER & BUNNY: The Rising, and Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie. Idolmaster fans dominated the character poll, placing 4 characters into the top 10 favourite female character poll, and even 1 into the male character poll.

Don’t be too upset if the results are a great deal different from your personal favourites. After all, the poll is magazine-specific,so there is definitely some bias in the interests of the readers. The Charapedia polls which we have covered previously definitely show more diversity in interests, since they poll a wider audience.

Newtype (ニュータイプ) is a Japanese magazine publication that covers mainly anime, manga and video games. Launched by publishing company Kadokawa Shoten, it is released monthly on the 10th of every month. It is also available in local Kinokuniya bookstores.
