GSR

Japan is been renowned for combining the most unlikely of things. Earlier this month, they did it again with the Good Smile Racing (GSR) Cup held at the New Tokyo Circuit in Japan’s Chiba Prefecture.

“Bike racing while listening to anime songs, eating food, and then back to racing! It’s an event for anyone who loves characters and bikes.” proclaims the event’s official site. Right of the bat you could tell that this was not going to be your average bike race with organizers encouraging participants to wear jerseys designed with the motifs of their favorite anime, manga or video game series. And yes, full blown cosplays were also encouraged.

Let’s take a look at this year’s event.

The official Twitter account for the event, GSR Swemy kept everyone up to date with the on-goings of the event:

“Good morning! It looks like it’s not going to rain”

“The Miku Z4 and TT Rei 13 Kai are on display. They were not fenced up so we could get up close with them.”

“Mr Ukyo has entered battle mode”

“Representative Aki will be in the race with Mr Ukyo”

“Mikusapo-chan has also arrived!”

“The criterium (a short bike race) has started!”

Some spectators got in on the act and uploaded some photos of the event as well:

“After seeing Kikumimi-san racing, I want a small wheel bicycle too.”

“Box”

“The usual scenery~♪.The alter looks something like this.”

“They’re being mass produced”

“This person joined the race too!”

“A Team wearing Love Live! Character jerseys for a three hour enduro (an off-road motocycle sport with different obstacles and challenges) race/ The Otonokizaka Bicycle club competed with five teams made up of nineteen participants and came in first and third. Thank you for your support!”

“Miku-san is in hot pursuit”

If you enjoy cycling and think you will be in Chiba in September next year, bring your own costume and you could be part of the event as well!
