Two new instalments have been announced for fans of the horror manga and anime, Tokyo Ghoul. News of a new manga, Tokyo Ghoul:re, as well as the second season of the anime have been confirmed! Tokyo Ghoul:re will launch next week in the 46th issue of the magazine, while the second season of the anime will air next January.
Just last month, the manga ended its 4-year run in Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump amidst much feels and tears from the fans. The end of the manga also coincided with the end of the 12-episode anime series, leaving the fandom languishing about without any form of sustenance.
Created by Sui Ishida, Tokyo Ghoul is set in an alternate world where human-eating ‘ghouls’ disguise themselves as normal people and roam about Tokyo, leading ordinary lives albeit with rather special diets. The series follows an ordinary college boy, Ken Kaneki, who turns into a ghoul after an organ transplant from the very ghoul pursuing him.
According to ANN, a teaser in the last issue of Weekly Young Jump bore the cryptic message: “The legend has a beginning. If you bear witness to this beginning, it will be a moment you will never forget as long as you live!!”
The official Chinese website for the manga first leaked a release date for the second season of the anime earlier in September, but was promptly taken down in a matter of days. However, Weekly Young Jump pulled fans out of the ambiguity by confirming that the second season of the anime will indeed be released in January 2015.
With both the new manga series and anime to look forward to, the producers have certainly whetted the fans’ appetites.
