The Pokémon Company and BANDAI NAMCO Games today announced a collaboration to bring a brand-new game, titled POKKÉN TOURNAMENT, to arcades in Japan. For now, there is still no word of a console or overseas release just yet.
The gameplay features Pokemon fighting toe-to-toe against one another, and it was first hinted at the Pokemon Game Show in 2013. Shortly after the event, the new trademarks for “Pokkén Fighters” and “Pokkén Tournament” were registered.
The game is being developed by the team from BANDAI NAMCO’s hit series Tekken. The head of Tekken’s production team, Katsuhiro Harada said, “Whether you are a causal player, a regular player or a hardcore player, anyone who likes Pokémon can have fun.” He added that the game is “closer to an action game” and that Namco will use its “know how” to develop the game.
This is not the first time Nintendo has announced collaborations for one of its most popular game franchises, with Koei Tecmo developing a Legend of Zelda x Dynasty Warriors collaboration titled Hyrule Warriors, scheduled for release in late September this year.

The trailer features two Pokemon, Lucario and Machamp. Blaziken was also hinted back in 2013 during the Pokémon Game Show and from the sounds of it, the game will be aimed at everyone from the casual gamer to the hardcore Pokémon fans.
