The Shining Theatrical Troupe project from music otome game Uta no Prince-sama broke new sales records!
All 3 releases of the Shining Theatrical Troupe series have achieved achieved a whopping 2nd on the Oricon Weekly charts, outdoing many big-name, mainstream artistes on Japan’s prestigious music ranking charts. Most recent release, JOKER TRAP, did the best of the series, selling 42, 823 copies within its first week of release. Masquerade Mirage and Tenka Muteki no Shinobi-do also achieved impressive sales but did not come close, selling more than 36,000 and 35,000 copies respectively.
The Shining Theatrical Troupe is a special project based off Broccoli’s otome game Uta no Prince-sama, a hit franchise that has also spurned multiple games, two anime seasons (with an upcoming 3rd season) and numerous music releases. This project consists of 3 releases, each comprising of a theme song, a “stage play” audio drama track and a series of related goods. All 3 were released over the past 3 months, starting from Masquerade Mirage last December, to JOKER TRAP released just a couple of weeks ago.

With such solid sales rivaling mainstream J-POP, Uta no Prince-sama could be the biggest music franchise to boost Japanese music sales within Japan in face of foreign competition.
