Niconico and Youtube both streamed a trailer for the Anime Mirai 2014 projects, introducing the various titles as well as a vow to “change the future of anime”.
The Japan Animation Creators Association (JAniCA), who are responsible for the project, receives the money from the Japanese government’s Agency for Cultural Affairs, and distributes most of those funds to studios, who will use it to give on-the-job training to young animators. The four studios would each received a sum of 38 million yen (US$380,000) from the “Young Animator Training Project” to produce their anime.
TOHO Cinemas Roppongi Hills in Tokyo and other theatres throughout Japan will then be screening these anime shorts on March 1, 2014.
This would be the third year of the project with previous years titles being, Little Witch Academia by Trigger, the studio that made Kill la Kill. This project allows for the studios to work on non-commercial or projects deemed unprofitable, allowing for young script writers and directors to try out new directions. Thereby changing and improving the anime industry.
